A Chinese blue & white lotus-shaped dish. Kangxi period.
Formed as a lotus flower with nine radiating petals, similarly painted at the centre with insects in flight above a grasshopper perched on rockwork beside chrysanthemum an peony sprays, below nine lappets enclosing mandarin ducks on a lotus pond, a pair of birds beside a prunus branch, a pair of birds perched on a willow tree, and flowering branches and rockwork, below brown-glazed rims, the reverse with single upright flower sprays on each petal.
