A very rare armorial tea cup for the Swiss market (Menzi). Qianlong
Decorated in the famille rose palette, with the coat of arms of the Menzi family (canton of Glaris). The border is decorated with a rococo shell border and foliage in shades of pink.

Only two pieces of the Menzi service were repertoried in the exhibition Le voyage aux Indes. Porcelaines de Chine pour des familles suisses, 1740-1780, curated by Vincent Libert (2016, château de Nyon, Swiss) : the current cup and saucer, and a plate. Two others plates were offered by our gallery recently.

Many catholic branches of the Menzi family which could have been in the service of France, as protestant branches which could have been in trade with the indies. The members of this family were mainly established in the districts of Kerenzen, Obstalden and Mühlehorn, on the shores of Lake Walenstadt.
