Large Chinese export wine cooler for the French market (Farcy de Cuillé). Qianlong

The form after a European silver model, with the coat-of-arms of Jacques-Annibal-Gabriel de Farcy de Cuillé (1724-1795), known as Marquis de Cuillé, sable, a wolf passant argent, armed and languid gules, in chief a crescent of the last. Mantling of président of Parlement. Flowers sprays in famille rose enamels and en grisaille.

Notice

In 1746, he became councilor of the Parlement of Brittany, and then was appointed “président à mortier » of the Parlement of Brittany in 1756. In 1786, he was appointed King’s commissaire at the assembly of the Etats de Bretagne. He was involved in all the struggles of the Parlement of Brittany concerning the privileges of the province against the central power, and was exiled several times to his home of Cuillé. He was part of a family, which provided a great number of members of Parlement in Brittany.

In 1747, he married Catherine de Bahuno de Kerolain in Hennebont. His brother Auguste-François, Bishop of Quimper, also ordered a Chinese armorial service.
